Before Pics of our New Home

Hey friends!

So, this has been a long time comin’. My husband and I have lived in our current house for almost 4 years. However, we never really felt settled. I think a year after we moved in I had the house listed for sale. It was never about the house, but about location and function. I obviously love my current house, I made a whole Instagram and blog dedicated to it, but I could never picture our future here so we were always on the hunt for somewhere else.  It’s funny how things work out though because the house didn’t sell for a while and we couldn’t find a home that was worth moving to, until now.

Our new house is everything we were missing. It’s in a neighborhood, with kids that actually play outside! A small (but mighty) school system and an entryway. Yep. I’ll admit it, I hated that when you walked into my current house you walked into the living room, literally.

Currently, we have about a week left before we have to be out of our house and into the new one. The house was in pretty good condition, but there were some things I wanted to make my own. So, when we closed at the end of August, we immediately got to work! Now, when I say we, I don’t literally mean I physically did these things. We hired some really awesome contractors. They have been husslin’ to meet our deadline. Will they make it!? I’m not sure, I have to say I’m getting a bit nervous. There is still a good amount of work to be done, if you follow me on Instagram you will see some of the progress in my stories. Either way, come next week we are moving in!

Here are some photos of the house before all the work started. I literally ran in one day and just snapped photos of each room. I didn’t move any clutter or open any shades.  So, here is your warning, there IS NOT pretty staged photos below this point.

Modern Shabby Chic Bedroom

If you know me at all you know I had a wish to decorate a little girls room. Being a boy mom and loving to decorate, it was just on my list of things to do. So, when my cousins asked me to help them with their little girls’ room, the answer was a no brainer. YES, OF COURSE, I’LL HELP!!! They were super cool about it too, totally let me take the wheel and do what I wanted. I can happily check it off the bucket list, that at least I got to do this once! I hope you all like it as much as I do. I’m calling it Modern Shabby Chic because it is just that. Some of the art work and the wall paper is more on the modern side and then we paired it with chalk painted furniture, pretty blush pinks, and some romantic accents. The furniture was actually Vivi’s moms when she was a little girl. I gave it a fresh coat of paint and it’s like brand new! I love how this room turned out and it will grow with her for years to come. I think that’s so important with kids rooms. As a nursery, I can understand it being age appropriate. However, once you convert to the big kid bed I think it’s really important to find that balance of a fun and safe sanctuary that will grow with them for many years.

Our scheme ended up being black, white, pink and accents of gold. It fell together really well. All the sources and paint color are listed, so keep reading!

Let’s talk about this bedding. This is by Beddy’s Bed in the Vintage Blush. Click here to check it out. So, little Vivi is 3 and is making her own bed! How cool is that? Beddy’s specializes in making bed sets that go on like a fitted sheet and then they zip on the sides. So convenient and they are all adorable too. I know a few people with these sets now and they are all obsessed with them. I am too, to be honest. I wonder how hubby would feel about me re doing my boys’ rooms….again! 😉

Two things made me want this sign above the bed. One, Vivi has such a beautiful spirit about her, she truly belongs amongst the wild flowers. Second, I feel like it goes well with the awesome wall paper! I like finding ways to decorate that have meaning and are also practical in the space. So, #winning. You can check out William Rae Designs Etsy shop by clicking here. Speaking of that wall paper, let’s look at that…

I love it sooo much!!! It’s fun, whimsical and easy to install! My husband and his cousin had it done in a few hours. The best part, it peels right off. This is made by Walls Need Love it is their Sketch Floral Print and we actually ordered it in the mural, not the wall paper strips. They go on the same though. The difference is that the wall paper would have been a repeated pattern, where as the mural is one large picture. For bigger spaces, order the murals, for smaller accent walls I would suggest the wall paper. Unless the print can be repeated, but for this size wall and this floral print, the mural was the better option. They have so many awesome prints and murals. It’s coming back friends, wall paper is the new accent wall!

 Check it out here!

How cute are the Unicorn Whispers hanging on the tent!? These are made by my friend Alicia at The Dancing Tapestry. I mean, first of all, they are called Unicorn Whispers. That makes them adorable no matter what they look like! I think they added the perfect touch to the reading tent. Vivi loves them! When I first brought them over she thought I brought her jewelry. She had them on her wrists and was twirling around. Total magic in the eyes of a 3 year old. The Dancing Tapestry has a lot of really awesome wall hangings, you can check out her Etsy shop by clicking here.

Well, I hope you love her room as much as we do! Below are a few more sources for you, and as always if you have any questions, just shoot me an email!

Hi, I’m Caitlin and I’m addicted to Amazon. Seriously, I need a program. It’s just too easy to shop on the app, I don’t even realize I’m spending money and they have EVERYTHING! Well, you know the saying, misery loves company, so I’m bringing you all down with me. Waahahaha! …Just kidding. I’m sharing some of my favorite new finds because they’re too good not to be shared.

First up, check out these cuties…

Only for $17.00 and they’re Prime, so free shipping. These can be used inside or outside. I say go and treat yo’self. Whenever my husband and I talk about Amazon, it starts with, “How do they do it!?” We’ve never actually answered that question though…

This tea towel is by Hearth and Harrow from Amazons Handmade section. I love her stuff, she has the prettiest prints. This is great to hang on a hook in your kitchen or on your oven for the Summer months!

So, these canisters are pretty fun too! I like to pretend I’m one of those people that keep my kitchen counters completely clear, but I’m not. Also, I’m a grazer so something like these are great for me to put almonds or cashews in. I can leave them out and they look pretty. These come in a set of 4, but I like the size options and that they are different prints.

Let’s talk good vibes. I’m all about them. I truly love the energy my Himalayan salt lamp gives off and I think everyone should own one. Amazon is selling them for less than $20.00. Go get one now!
Here is mine, it sits on my console table in my entryway.
You will be so happy you purchased this one, plus they have little salt lamp night lights. I’ve never tried them, but since these lamps help with relaxation and sleeping, I’d assume they would be great in a nursery!
I’m also a huge fan of the blush color, I was told that the salt is this color due to other minerals like potassium and calcium that is in it.  Let’s get back to it before I start writing a research paper for you! I really do love these lamps though!
One more cozy item…because the snuggle is real. 😉
So, I know it’s summer but sometimes that AC unit is cold and we all need a good snuggle. Plus it’s priced really well!
Well, these are all of my favorite things from Amazon for the summer. Most of these items can be used throughout the year, which is always a good thing… but shopping seasonally is always fun too!
Now, go visit my friend Alma. If you have guests coming in to stay the night this season she is going to give you all the tips on how to make the guest room Summer ready!
Thanks for stopping by!

Mother’s Day DIY

Hey all!

I wanted to share a really simple Mother’s Day craft my kids made for their grandmoms! It was so easy, a little messy, but a lot of fun! I got this wallpaper adhesive made by Paper Riot Co they have a bunch of different styles and it is so easy to work with! I heard this before I actually tried it and I have to say I was skeptical because I am not one of those people that have patience for tedious things, but it wasn’t tedious, it really is super easy to work with!

So, all I did here was buy one of these little canvases from a local craft store, I chose 8×10 but if you have more than two kids or kids with bigger hands, you can buy a bigger size. Paper Riot sheets come 20×16 so just don’t exceed that. Then you need scissors to get started.

I simply cut the decals to the size of the canvas then covered the canvas with it.

So, now you have a super cute canvas and the possibilities are really endless! You can simply print out a photo and write mom on the canvas with cute little stickers or just tape a photo to the canvas. I chose to paint little flower pots and then use my kid’s handprints as the flowers. I like how they turned out for a little extra something in my mom’s Mother’s Day gift. I have no doubt I’ll be doing another project with these decals!

We made 4 of these total, we got lots of mommy’s to celebrate! I started out by painting a flower pot on each canvas. I just used a regular washable kids paint. Then I painted a stem in green. Then the fun part, my kids dipping their hands in paint! I wasn’t really able to take pictures of the process, I’m sure you can guess why! My boys chose blue and orange for the flowers, but obviously, you can choose any color you want. My older sons hands are on the top and my younger one on the bottom. I think the Paper Riot decal gives it a bit of elegance instead of leaving the white canvas.

I wrote “Happy Mother’s Day 2017” in marker on the flower pots once they dried. If I had more time I probably would have went back to the craft store and bought little letter stickers or something better than my own handwriting, but it worked and it still looks good!

I also found those cute little canvas holders at my local craft store. I bought one to go with each canvas!

How simple is that!? I hope you’ll try it, let me know if you do.

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you wonderful moms out there!
